Over the last five years, 97% of our DMD students passed the NBDE Part 1 and 2 on their first attempt. The remarkable first-time pass rate for these examinations is due to a number of variables, but most importantly the dedication and hard work of our students and the commitment of our faculty.
The National Board Dental Examination
The purpose of the NBDE Part I and NBDE Part II examinations is to assist state boards in determining qualifications of dentists who seek licensure to practice dentistry. The examinations assess the ability to understand important information from basic biomedical and dental sciences, and the ability to apply such information in a problem-solving context.
Entering students from the Class of 2023 forward will take one Integrated National Dental Examination (INBDE) early in their senior year. To prepare students for this new examination all course examinations in the DMD curriculum contain “Patient Box” and “Stand Alone” new item formats. Additionally, students participate in a Mock INBDE exam at the end of every semester. These efforts support our student body through the comprehensive dental education of our DMD program and in successful outcomes in national examinations leading to dental licensure.
